REGION 4
As part of Region 4's ongoing commitment to provide quality professional development activities, there will be at least 2 full day workshops provided this year. Next Workshop:
BCACC Region 4 Spring Workshop: Saturday April 26th 2008; 9AM to 4PM. "Court Testimony for Counsellors" Presenter: Maureen McEvoy, MA, RCC
Counsellors will inevitably face a court appearance, and/or have significant legal involvement sooner or later. When it does happen, usually without warning, it is far better to be well informed and prepared than face the alternatives. In this workshop we will examine the common concerns and issues counsellors deal with from a clinical perspective when a court appearance or legal involvement is required. Information and insights about how to deal professionally, ethically and effectively with the myriad of conflicting agendas will be discussed from a clinical counsellor's point of view.
Topics will include: What is a “Subpoena” and how can I respond to one of these? What is a “Notice of Motion” and what should I do with it? What are the types of courts and how these differences can affect you as a clinician? Preparing for court well before you are called upon Completing an appropriate CV Clarifying your professional role Reviewing your case notes Stages of testimony Tips for testifying Patterns of cross examination Debriefing after your court appearance

Topic: Integrative Body Meditation (Introduction)
Integrative Meditation Training (IMT) is a simple and effective body-related instruction program that can be used safely and effectively with almost all clients. The underlying philosophy of the program entails educating clients on simple human physiology and the way the human body deals with life experiences as it strives towards personal happiness.
The core of IMT is the Integrative Body Meditation, which instructs clients on how to quickly ground the body physiologically to create a sense of safety and confidence within the physical self. As a client begins to feel that he or she can better manage the body’s reactions to stress, he or she is then better able to release past history and embrace personal growth. IMT was developed in collaboration with clients who predominately had little to no understanding of psychological theory and in general exhibited a very concrete world view. The result was the creation of a meditation training program that is very concrete, effective and virtually theory-free.
The benefit of this for counsellors is that IMT is easily incorporated into almost any current theoretical framework. This Integrative Meditation Training (IMT) Counsellors’ Workshop is designed to:
1.Increase counsellors understanding of human physiology and how meditation affects the body’s autonomic nervous system. 2.Teach counsellors practical meditation techniques to create immediate grounding and a sense of physical safety within the body. 3.Help counsellors understand the difference between relaxation and meditation training for clients. 4.Provide counsellors with an Integrative Body Meditation cd for personal listening use.
