    APPLY FOR REGISTERED MEMBERSHIP IN THE BCACC

    BCACC MEMBER ORIENTATION WORKSHOPS


    MEMBERS OF BCACC ARE COMMITTED TO HIGH ETHICAL AND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS OF PRACTICE AND TO CONTINUING COMPETENCY. IT IS THROUGH THIS APPLICATION PROCESS THAT BCACC STRIVES TO ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY AND A STRONG PROFESSIONAL IDENTITY.

    APPLICATION CHECKLIST

    If you are considering applying, first familiarize yourself with the criteria for registered membership in the Association, and check the application deadlines for this year.

    BEFORE you send in your application, please check to see that all the items below are included or are in process.

    Your application will not be considered until all of the documentation on this checklist has been received. We suggest that you print the checklist for your records.


    ____ITEM 1: Application Form is to be completed and the certification section signed and witnessed indicating that you have read and understood BCACC's Scope of Practice, and our Code of Ethical Conduct and Standards of Clinical Practice with its accompanying Standards.

    ____ITEM 2: Reference forms (at least 2) must be completed and sent directly from the referees to the BCACC Head Office. One of the references must have supervised your clinical work; the other can be a colleague.  Use the links shown below to access the forms you need.

    BCACC requires a minimum of 100 hours of direct clinical supervision, which must be documented on a Clinical Reference Form.  If the 100 hours were supervised by more than one supervisor, each supervisor must complete a Clinical Reference Form for the number of hours she/he supervised.
     
       A. Qualifications of the Clinical Supervisor:
         
        i.  approved by a university to provide clinical supervision of your practica and internships or,
        ii. a regulated mental health professional with, at least, a Master's degree.

       B. At least 25 of the supervised hours must be directly observed by your clinical supervisor.  The clinical supervisor will witness your clinical work in one or more of the following ways:

    1. supervision by direct observation of sessions
    2. supervision of video-taped sessions
    3. supervision of audio-taped sessions
    4. co-counselling
    5. co-facilitating
        C.  Supervision via case consultation will be considered, in combination with direct observation.
        D.  Client contact hours that did not involve the supervisor's direct supervision (as defined above) ARE NOT to be included in the total hours of clinical supervision.
        E.  Supervision hours from practica, internships and post-graduate clinical work will be considered.  Supervision which occured prior to the Master's degree will not be considered.

    ____ITEM 3: Your Resumé must be current and include details of:

    1. General academic qualifications
    2. Counselling Training
    3. Work Experience

    ____ITEM 4: Transcripts must come directly from the educational institution to BCACC Head office.

        A.  The following broad based counselling courses are required:
              i) normal and abnormal psychology;
              ii) counselling and personality theories;
              iii) group therapy theory and practice;
              iv) family therapy theory and practice;
              v) basic research design, and;
              vi) ethics
        B. In cases where official transcripts do not contain course titles, the applicant may be required to provide an official listing of course numbers and titles.
        C.  Transcript evaluation from ICES (International Credential Evaluation Service) will be required for those submitting degrees from outside Canada and the United States.
     
    ____ITEM 5: Professional Liability Insurance - Please indicate on the application form:
     
        A.  If you are currently covered by professional liability insurance, either through your employer or with your own insurance provider, or
        B.  If you will be applying for professional liability insurance with BCACC's carrier upon acceptance as a BCACC member.
        Proof of insurance will be required before you are registered with BCACC.
     
    ____ITEM 6: Criminal Record Check.  A written verification from your local Police Department (at your expense), stating that you have no police record.
    1. Print the Consent for Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
    2. Bring the completed consent form to your local Police Department to have them perform a criminal record search at your expense.
    3. Send the results of your completed Criminal Record Search directly to the Registration Committee, c/o BCACC Head Office at the address shown below.

    ***Please note that it can take several weeks for the police to complete a criminal record search. To ensure your criminal record check arrives BY THE APPLICATION DEADLINE, we recommend that you bring your criminal record search form to the police AT LEAST ONE MONTH BEFORE THE APPLICATION DEADLINE.

    ____ITEM 7: Payment of $200.00 ($190.48 + $9.52 GST) for a one-time, non-refundable Application Fee must be included with the application form.

    APPLICATIONS WILL BE PROCESSED ONLY WHEN ALL DOCUMENTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED AT BCACC HEAD OFFICE.  Once all documents have been received, your application will be sent to the Office of the Registrar for preliminary review.  Upon completion of this review, your application will be sent to the next meeting of the Registration Committee for further scrutiny and possible further documentation requests before the final decision is made.  You will be notified by mail 4 - 6 weeks after the Registration meeting as to the Committee's decision.


    The BC Association of Clinical Counsellors conforms to the requirements of the British Columbia Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Your application information will be used to determine your eligibility for membership only. Incomplete applications will be held for a period of three years from the date the information was received before it may be destroyed without notice to the applicant. After three years an application must be resubmitted according to current criteria for membership.
